Counselling with Deb
Kids and Teens need something a little different when it comes to counselling support.
As a qualified and experienced counsellor, my goal is to meet my young clients where they’re at. My sessions are tailored to individual personalities, interests and needs.
With a lot of warmth and empathy, I take a solution-focused and problem- solving approach. I help my clients tap into their strengths and find new ways of responding to their challenges.
Problems are a part of life for everyone. I believe that in every problem, there is an opportunity for personal growth, we sometimes just need some help to see it.
The challenge your child or teen is facing could be the opening to learn and practice new skills such as; more flexible thinking, conflict resolution skills, self-awareness, tolerance for distress, impulse control, acceptance, self-kindness and more.
Helping a young person to overcome a previously unsolved problem by teaching them a new skill or different perspective gives them the confidence to start problem solving for themselves.

A little more about Deb
My life’s work has always been about supporting young people to make sense of their struggles, learn ways of coping, know their strengths and make space for fun and connection.
My career began as a classroom teacher before I became more focussed on inclusive education and school counselling. Over two decades later, I still haven’t left school! I consider it a privilege to work with young people every day and to watch their personal growth over time.
Throughout my career I’ve got to know hundreds of young people and their families, each with their own unique circumstances, strengths and struggles.
Working as a classroom teacher, special educator and head of inclusive education, I have built strong skills in partnering with young people to work towards positive change and growth.
As a school guidance counsellor, I have a real understanding of the school-related and other issues young people struggle with. I also have a good understanding of the support strategies that are most effective and developmentally appropriate for children and teens.
